Find Your Greatness

Nike has a new campaign out with the alluring motto “Finding Your Greatness.” With the Olympics going on Nike is trying to capture all athletes as they endure the losses and wins throughout this process. Their main goal is to inspire and motivate each individual to do their best and to find what makes them who they are.

The campaign aired in 25 different countries and showed athletes around the world training, playing and competing; all being different shapes, sizes, color, and excelling in different sports shows the variety in talent.
So I ask, what do you think is great about you? Athlete or not we all have something that makes us special and uniquely different from the rest of the crowd. If you do not know what that is, it is imperative that you begin to search for that answer. If you don’t know who you are you can’t fully surpass the expectation that you are capable of. So find your greatness and use it to find yourself and encourage others in the process.

Times Up

The summer of 2012 is coming to a near end. School is about to be in session in less than a month so that’s time up for sleeping in, being idle, and multiple summer vacations for most kids. My last fundamentals camp of the summer is also just around the corner. But as one thing ends, something new begins and certain things never stop.

Being great and doing things to the best of your ability are just two of the many things that should never change in your life. I encourage you all in life to take each task whether big or small, commit to it and perform it with excellence. Remember to always be yourself because no one can be you better you can.

The Trade

Sports are more than just a physical activity but also a business and when you're in business your main goal is to profit from it in any way. How do you suppose the athletic corporations go about doing that? Being a part of the NBA puts players, coaches, and owners in a great position to make money by earning championship rings, endorsements, and putting on a show that our supporters want to see. But the key is to always throw in an unexpected play so that the opposing side will no longer be able to predict your moves, and that’s where trading comes in.

We all know some keys players have made their unexpected moves. With Steve Nash becoming a Laker, Ray Allen adding to the Heat, Jason Kidd joining the Knicks and Lamar Odom is creating a new trio with CP3 and Blake Griffin while being the newest player to the Clippers. Talk about a new type of game. The biggest question is who will get the ring this year. Let me know who ya’ll got this year.

Living Above The Label

It is such a blessing to have been where I been and done what I have done. This is one main reason why I love to give back to my fans and to the community. I am grateful to have the opportunity to pay it forward with a subject I love, sports. My position in society allows me to see the world and experience a great deal of life, but what help would it be if I kept all my hardships and knowledge to myself?

For about 25 years I have still been going strong with my yearly summer basketball camps. I always teach fundamentals because with a strong foundation everything else falls into place. Each group of participants always shows me something different, and surprisingly I always learn something each year. The first camp of the summer has already passed and was a great success, but I have my annual Back to School Camp coming up in August. Remember, you are the only person who can stop you. Don’t limit yourself to being mediocre because of how things appear. Where would I be if I would have done that? As I like to say, “You’re never too small to ball and Always Believe!”.

March Madness

With March just around the corner, it's time to gear up and get ready for MARCH MADNESS! Time for brackets, fierce competition and good basketball. I already have a good idea of who I have going for in my bracket but I won't let you all know my predictions just yet. I'm looking forward to seeing how the tournament goes and will post my sweet 16 predictions soon.

A Timeless Resource

Like most people I am spending this summer with family and great friends. Having these moments with my children and my grandson are priceless memories. My life has been filled with some great memories; from my Dunbar Poet days, to Wake Forest, all the way through the NBA. As of late I’ve had a few fan ask “How does it feel to be retired?” or “What do you do now that you are retired?”. To be honest, I do the same things that I did prior to retiring.

I’ve always enjoyed helping the youth, so my basketball camps are still important to me. I still contribute to the community and dedicate my time to as many organizations and causes as I possibly can. I love reading the comments, posts, and tweets from fans that tell me that I was able to be a role model for them. My goal is to continue to grow as a role model; I want to be just as much of an inspiration now as I was then.

No matter how old we get, growth never grows old. It’s all about looking back and then giving back. Trust me when I say that dedicating your time to make a difference is more rewarding to you than those you help. I encourage everyone to find a cause or to support an organization with your time. Time is a resource that we all have in common and if we use it correctly we’ll make a timeless difference.
